From the Director, Julie Knowles:
"Over the last several decades, there has been a need for multi-talented performers that have the ability to execute not only classical ballet but also jazz, modern and other dance styles with technical amplitude and entertaining flair. This is evidenced by the repertoire of major ballet companies (American Ballet Theatre, New York City Ballet, Alvin Ailey) featuring works that are part ballet and part jazz (and other styles).
Thus, it takes many years to develop a capable performer, who has to be part athlete and part artist. In recognition of this fact, I offer a training curriculum for the twenty-first century that will produce a multi-talented, athletic, and artistic dancer who embodies the grace of a ballerina and the energy of a Broadway star. Qualities such as discipline, determination, persistence, self-confidence, leadership, and loyalty are ingrained over the long term."
LEVELS III - VIII (ages 9
- PrePro)
Based upon the Royal Academy of Dancing syllabus and the Vaganova syllabus, students begin to develop their artistry in levels IV and V with emphasis on developing more graceful movement, poise, balance and strength. Pre-pointe, pointe work, variations, partnering and repertoire are taught at the higher levels. Students are placed carefully according to age, strength, and development. The Artistic Director requests that new students take a placement class to properly assign a student to a level and promotion is made on an individual basis. Instructors: Julie Knowles,
Megan Driscoll
